» News source comparison

I am seeking a report comparing the CONTENT of the major news service providers (e.g. Factiva, Nexis-Lexis, Newsedge, divine, Reuters). I am hoping to find a report that will reveal the extent of geographical source material in each service. I am not interested in "How many" news sources each service has, but in the number of individual countries from which local news sources are derived and the number of individual sources delivered from each country. I am looking for a vender that can supply socio-economic and political news sources from the greatest number of countries around the globe. IF a comparison report has been done, I would be very pleased to obtain a copy of it....... - 2008-11-19

» advice needed to start a photo business

I'm new to TPF and hoping some of you photogs out there can lend me some advice. I have a Bachelor's Degree in photojournalism from about 8 years ago, but currently I'm working full-time in an unrelated field. I'm considering getting back into photography. My husband is a musician and has an "in" to the wedding industry in our town, which is very popular for destination weddings, etc. I'm also interested in pregnancy/baby/kid portraiture, etc. Since I haven't worked professionally in several years, my experience with digital is limited and I am not up-to-date on current imaging software, etc. But, I have a great eye and a love for photography! I have some questions about where to begin with this venture. Any general advice is welcome, pl...... - 2008-11-19

» Mouse wheel scrolling makes grid text disappear (Safari 3.1)

On Safari 3.1 (both mac/windows versions), using the mouse scroll wheel to scroll a grid within a panel causes text of the grid to disappear. I can see the gridheader and clicking on the a row activates the proper functionality. I just can't read the text! Very annoying for a user. Initially i thought the text was white but selecting the row changes the background color and I still can't read the text. The grid has autoHeight: true and its parent panel has autoScroll: true. This problem started with Ext 2.1. Just tried 2.2 hoping it might be fixed, but the problems persists. We haven't upgraded from 2.0.2 for this reason. Any ideas on what is causing this problem? » File Extensions are not removed

File extensions are not removed in the filebrowser when selecting an image. Would be more consistant if they were removed from here as we can only see pictures and in pictures the file extensions are removedI'm in 2 minds about this really. I'd prefer to remove the feature myself - files view is files view damnit :p Also, there's 2 labels involved: The currently selected item and the items in the list. I presume you'd want them removed from both?? What's to stop you not knowing which version of the file to select (think same picture, different extensions)?I only wanted them remove when viewing images myself :) not files. Source: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/04/21/africa/AF-MED-Nigeria-Polio-Problems.php Polio cases double in Nigeria, doctors fighting 2 different outbreaks The Associated Press Published: April 21, 2008 LONDON: Polio cases in Nigeria have nearly doubled this year as officials struggle to fight various natural strains of the virus and those unleashed by the vaccine itself. Outbreaks linked to the vaccine, as opposed to the "wild," or naturally occurring, polio virus, are usually stamped out within months. But in Nigeria, the outbreak caused by the vaccine has been ongoing since 2005. Low immunization rates, a weak health system and vaccine rumors have fueled a worrying spike in the numbers of paralyzed children. Some ex...... - 2008-11-19

» In need of some advice

I am wondering if the Miolta XG-M camera would be good enough for photography class. Please respond quickly, because I need to know ASAP.Yup, you should be good to go.It seems like it will work to me, though you might want to upgrade to a newer camera, new or extremely gently used film cameras can be had for 100-200 dollars. If your planning on getting serious this would be the best bet because you could start building up a lens collection. If money is tight though that camera should work just fine, if all else fails just talk to the person teaching the class. The XG-M is a perfectly capable manual focus 35mm SLR. If you only have one lens at the moment, you could pick up a whole collection ridiculously cheap on eBay. I can't see much reas...... - 2008-11-19

I just realized that if I select the restart option on the shutdown screen of XBMC it actually restarts or reboots the whole computer. (ballpark)Dear Bob, No, the process is not difficult. However, while the enrolment process itself might not be difficult, it is sometimes hard to be accepted to the university: there are certain standards that one should answer to; and the number of places offered in each programme might vary, but might be actually meager. » Does anybody else have this problem? Coughing up blood?

I live in Bakersfield, California, & one night when I was ten years old, I had a feeling like I was drowning & started coughing & coughed up TONS of blood [sorry, gruesome, i know]. I was coughing up blood for a few minutes straight. We ended up going to the doctor & they thought I had TB. They tested me & said it wasn't TB, but it was valley fever. They told me that tons of people in Bakersfield tend to get it & don't know it. If nobody knows anything about Bakersfield, we're in the valley & the air quality is HORRIBLE & there's dust EVERYWHERE. Well, I'm twenty now & every once in a while [mostly during the summer, I'm assuming it's because the air quality is horrible in the summertime] i will cough up b...... - 2008-11-19

» Pompey struggling to find top striker

http://www.thepompeypages.co.uk/newsdaily.cfm?newsID=1891 Little article from The Pompey Pages. This offseason is not going well. It looks as though Smertin wants to return to Chelsea and Harry reckons Lualua is overpriced. The only major signing we've had is injury prone defender Griffin. There just aren't many affordable players out there of a decent quality. I also think Harry took a small swipe at Mandaric in this article when he says of Didier Drogba, ‘he was too expensive at £4m and went to Marseille. Now he's worth £20m.' I take this as a criticism of the Chairman's spending policies. Obviously I am not in charge of this club. But if it's true that the club made 20m pounds for surviving this past year, shouldn't the Chairman pump ...... - 2008-11-19

Do you store them/or delete them. Just curious. I am going through my archives now, i am finding alot of my earlier work. I am glad i didn't chuck everything, I kinda gives me a benchmark from where I was. But I don't like saving everything either. Anyways, what are your habits?in general, id say i get 6 good shots from one rool of film. but i keep everything!!!! mdSome days, I get alot of keepers. Other days, I am just off my game. Nipah virus Overview Nipah virus is a newly recognized zoonotic virus. The virus was 'discovered' in 1999. It has caused disease in animals and in humans, through contact with infectious animals. The virus is named after the location where it was first detected in Malaysia. Nipah is closely related to another newly recognized zoonotic virus (1994), called Hendra virus, named after the town where it first appeared in Australia. Both Nipah and Hendra are members of the virus family Paramyxoviridae. Although members of this group of viruses have only caused a few focal outbreaks, the biologic property of these viruses to infect a wide range of hosts and to produce a disease causing significant mortality in humans has made this emerging vir...... - 2008-11-19

As I was reading a book on cultural differences inside Europe, I found the analysis of the famous Dutch cultural psychologist Geert Hofstede (http://spitswww.uvt.nl/web/iric/hofstede/), who used to work for IBM and classified cultural differences under 5 categories (http://spitswww.uvt.nl/web/iric/hofstede/page3.htm) : - power distance - individualism vs collectivism - masculinilty vs femininity - uncertainty avoidance - long-term vs short-term orientation Here is what he says about the second one, which I'd like to discuss here : Individualism on the one side versus its opposite, collectivism, that is the degree to which individuals are inte-grated into groups. There had been many rumors as to where highly-rated Italian U-21 keeper Marco Amelia would be playing this season after he starred at Livorno this past year. Is this possible?I think it's possible with at least one of the two. However, for bulb shots I think it might be a better idea to go with the cable release instead of the IR release. Since the IR sensor is on the front of most Canon cams, the remotes will only work if you're in front of the camera (or if something is reflecting it from in front). » If you are using json.cfc ... [solution to a possible error]

Hi, If you are using the Coldfusion component json.cfc here is a little patch for it to fix the following problem. json.cfc is at http://www.epiphantastic.com/cfjson/ I am pulling data from a database in response to an Ajax request and using json.cfc to encode it before returning it to Ext. I convert the data from a query to an array of structures then pass that to the encode() method of json.cfc. Now, it is important for my Ext application that numeric data base fields come through as numerics and strings as strings etc ie that data type is maintained. So, I am using json.cfc.encode() in it's default state ie no quotes around numbers so Ext stores them with the correct data type when they arrive in the json from the server. ...... - 2008-11-19

What's the optimal hard disk size for most high-traffic sites using vB?The largest forums take 3-4 gigabytes of hard drive space for the database. This is 1-2 million posts though. With vB there is 2 different types of disk space usage. 1. web space - for php/html/image files and you vB files 2. mysql database space - which is separate from web space in that the mysql database space resides on a different partition from web space on nearly all web hosts.
