Ferguson Keeps Beckham Busy

Sir Alex Ferguson hopes football can be an outlet for David Beckham as the England captain comes to terms with the threat made against his wife and children.

Contrary to some speculation, Beckham has not taken time off from training and is likely to be involved in Manchester United's Worthington Cup encounter with Leicester tomorrow - barely 72 hours after he was informed about a plot to kidnap his family.

Beckham has already set about increasing security at his Hertfordshire home, and Manchester United are reviewing their own arrangements for ensuring the safety of his players after nine people were questioned over the kidnapping allegations.

It is thought an eastern European gang were plotting to snatch Beckham's wife Victoria and their two sons Brooklyn and Romeo and then demand millions in ransom money under the threat of death.

The plot has now been foiled, although Beckham is still coming to terms with the situation.

Ferguson expressed his extreme concern over the incident, which came to light during his side's 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday - but he hopes his stand-in captain can find his release on the pitch.

"The events of the past two days have been quite dramatic and of great concern," he told MUTV.

"But I do not think resting him is the thing to do. He is happy being occupied in his football - that is the thing David loves most of all."
